This decision was taken at the business meeting of Governor of the region Alexander Moor and the President of the Russian Biathlon Union Vladimir Drachev that took place on Friday, December 7, in the Pearl of Siberia Winter Sports Center.
The meeting was also attended by RBU Sports Vice-President Sergey Chepikov, Deputy Governor Olga Kuznechevskikh, Director of the Physical Education, Sports and Supplementary Education Department of the Tyumen Region Dmitry Gramotin, as well as Head of the regional federation of ski racing and biathlon Mikhail Ilii and Director of Pearl of Siberia Anatoliy Emelianov.
The Head of the region stressed the importance of holding the major events in the regional winter sports center: “It is one of the three A-grade biathlon complexes in the country and it is known and loved by fans. Biathlon lovers from 20 regions came here to watch the latest competitions, so it should not be left out from the international schedule. That is why we form an application to hold this season’s Champions Race. We plan to host it in early April and invite both biathletes and skiers: we already used such a format of the competition and the public enjoyed it”, said Alexander Moor, ensuring the Head of the RBU that the competitions will be organized at the highest level possible.
“The Tyumen region has vast experience in hosting the sports events at the largest scale, rich biathlon traditions and one of the world’s best biathlon stadiums. I believe that Tyumen will successfully cope with the task of hosting the competitions. We are ready to send an application from the region to the IBU already at our next meeting with the representatives of the International biathlon Union”, said Vladimir Drachev, adding that the Tyumen region is the base region for the training of Russian national biathlon team and for the holding of major competitions. He expressed confidence that the existing infrastructure must be used comprehensively throughout the year.
